Grade 7
We will hold the Community Meeting this week. We will also talk about the events of the Rebellion. You will being working on your second persuasive essay.

Grade 8
8A and 8B Causes of World War II Test- Wednesday, January 25th.
This week is all about researching for the Crinimal Intent project. Don’t forget to study for your test.

Grade 9-
9A and 9B Wikis due on Friday, January 27th
We will continue to discuss and analyze the MDGoals through various activities.

Grade 7 Language Arts-
Jamie, The Blind Man Assignment due Tuesday, January 24th. You need your rough copy and your good copy please.
We will continue active listening and you will practice tone of voice. You will prepare a skit with a partner showing active listening skills.

January 16th- January 20th

Grade 7
7A -Speech Balloons due Monday, January 16th
We will work on looking at the different political parties in 1937 and why people were so upset with the government. We will begin preparing for the Community Meeting.

Grade 8
8A and 8B Causes of World War II Test- Wednesday, January 25th.
We will finish analyzing the causes and take a closer look at Hitler and other dictators of the time period. I will pass out the test and give you some time to get organized using your cause and effect charts. We will begin work on the Criminal Intent Mock Courtroom project.

Grade 9-
9B-Global Village project due on Thursday, January 19th.
9A- Global Village Project due on Friday, January 20th (Put the time into this please.)
We will complete our discussion of the gallery walk activity analyzing various global issues around the globe. We begin a section about the MDG’s and have some informal debating.

Grade 7 Language Arts- You should begin filling in your daily log for your reading (Due on Monday, January 16th)
We will continue active listening and I will tell you a true life story about my friend, Jamie. It’s a miracle…It really is!! You will retell the story.

Grade 7
7A and 7B- Democracy Persuasive Essay due Tuesday, January 10th (except if you are at the Power of Change workshop. You can then pass it on on Wednesday.)

I have finished marking the 1920′s/30′s tests and will hand them back this week. We will continue with the unit on World War II. Happy New Year and welcome back!! Here is the line-up for this week:

Grade 7
7A and 7B- I will hand back your test that you wrote before the break and we will discuss it. Marks have already been posted to SAS. We will continue to talk about government in the colonies. We will review the qualities of a democracy. You will learn how to write an opinion paper using Ms MacDonald’s Formula for Writing…it works!!! Of course, you will write you first paper as well.

Grade 8
I have started to mark the 1920′s/30′s tests but I am not ready to hand them back. I’ll return them this week hopefully. We will begin the unit on World War II. I know that you are not surprised that I am excited about this. We will talk about what you already know, what you want to learn about and we will will start looking at the causes.

Grade 9- I will begin to mark your projects as soon as the grade 8 tests are completed. In the meantime, we will begin a section on the global village.

Grade 7 Language Arts- You should continue to fill in a daily log for your reading (Due on Monday, January 9th)
We will review the developing ideas sheets that you worked on before the break. We will begin writing our articles using Ms MacDonald’s Formula for Writing. It works!! Wednesday is a reading day.

7A and 7B- Test on The Great Migration Monday, December 12th
We will continue to talk about government in the colonies. We will identify the qualities of a democracy. You will learn how to write an opinion paper using Ms MacDonald’s Formula for Writing…it works!!!

Grade 8
8A Test- The 1920′s and 1930′s- Friday, December 16th
8B Test- The 1920′s and 1930′s- Friday, December 16th
We will prepare for the test this week and possibly start the World War II unit. Yeah!!

Grade 9- We will finish editing and prepare for the presentation. I would like to have the project completely done by the end of the week. This includes a peer assessment and self assessment.

Grade 7 Language Arts- You should continue to fill in a daily log for your reading (Due on Monday, December 12th)
Assignment- Developing Ideas for Newspaper Articles (Step Up)- Monday, December 12th
We will begin work on Wiki 2 and continue to complete reading logs. We will begin writing our articles using Ms MacDonald’s Formula for Writing. It works!! If we have time we will begin the Global Village section of our unit.

Grade 7- We will continue the Silent Debate. We will look at the daily life of settler and begin preparing for a test in class. No date yet.

Grade 8- We will finish the 1920′s discussion with a story about Al Capone. We will begin the 1930′s as well.
8B- Poster of the Roaring 20′s due Tuesday November 29th

Grade 9- Filming continues until mid-week. Good job so far everyone. I will need some time to upload the footage and then we will begin to learn Windows Moviemaker.

Grade 7 Language Arts- You will complete an in class assignment on narrowing your topic. Remember that Monday is a writing day. You continue to fill in a daily log for your reading (Due next Monday)

Grade 7- Catherine MacKay will be by on Monday for an interview. You will work on a character collage to show your understanding of the early settlers. We will begin looking at daily life of the settlers as well.

Grade 8- We will continue to discuss prosperity in the 1920′s. We will begin to talk about technology of the 1920′s.
8A- Letter to The Editor due Tuesday, November 22nd

Grade 9- You will finish your organizational web on Monday. Writing Crew will begin writing the Rant and the Film Crew will make decisions about the filming process. We will begin filming I think later in the week.

Grade 7 Language Arts- We will continue to discuss the importance of reading and complete a reading inventory. You will begin to fill in a daily log for your reading as well as finish Task #1 on the Literacy Corner Wiki by Friday, November 25th.We will continue to practice the skill of developing ideas and narrowing your topic. Then you will have an in class assessment.

This week is a building week as we are starting or continuing the introduction of new units in Social Studies.

Grade 7- We will finish writing and we will perform the skit on earler settlers to BNA. Catherine MacKay will be by for an interview. We will begin looking at daily life of the settlers as well.

Grade 8- We will continue to discuss prosperity in the 1920′s. You will be composing a letter to the editor of a soldier returning from World War I.
8A- Letter to The Editor due Tuesday, November 22nd
8B- Letter to the Editor due Thursday, November 17th

Grade 9- Rick’s Rant research continues in the Lab. Later in the week you will return to class to begin work on the organization of your rant as well as the writing. Important filming decisions will be discussed as well.
